Phone call recording on Android

How to record a phone call on Android

On modern Android versions, microphone permission alone may not give an app access to phone-call audio. ProZvonki uses the Shizuku service to obtain the required system permission without rooting your phone.

Once set up, you do not need to start a voice recorder during every conversation. ProZvonki starts recording automatically when an incoming or outgoing call begins and stops when the call ends.

What you need for call recording

  • a phone running Android 11 or newer;
  • the RuStore build of ProZvonki — the Google Play build does not include call recording;
  • the third-party Shizuku app with its service running;
  • a few minutes to grant the permission during initial setup.

The complete steps, video, and firmware-specific tips are in the Shizuku call recording setup guide.

Automatic incoming and outgoing call recording

In ProZvonki, open Settings → Data → Call recording. When the status changes to “Shizuku ready,” turn on “Auto-record all calls.” The app will then create a recording automatically for each phone call.

This can help preserve an address, order number, client agreement, or next step discussed during a call.

Record phone calls without root

Root access is not required. On Android 11 and newer, Shizuku starts through Android's built-in wireless debugging directly on the phone. Without root, you need to start the Shizuku service again after rebooting the device; otherwise new calls will not be recorded.

Shizuku is a separate third-party app developed by RikkaApps. Install it only from an official source. ProZvonki does not develop Shizuku and is not responsible for how it works.

Where to find and play a call recording

Each completed recording is linked to the matching call in the ProZvonki call log. You can find a conversation by contact and call time instead of searching through unrelated audio files.

Recordings stay on the device in encrypted form and are not sent off the phone.

Why call recording may not work

  • you installed ProZvonki from Google Play, which does not include recording;
  • the phone runs an Android version older than 11;
  • the Shizuku service was not restarted after a reboot;
  • ProZvonki has not been granted Shizuku permission;
  • the phone firmware restricts Shizuku from running in the background.

If the status does not change to “Shizuku ready,” restart Shizuku, allow it to run in the background, and refresh the status in ProZvonki.

Call recording on Samsung, Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Honor, and other phones

This method is designed for Android 11 and newer rather than a single phone brand. Developer-option names and background restrictions may differ on Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Honor, Huawei, Realme, OnePlus, Tecno, and Infinix devices. The main flow is the same: start Shizuku, grant ProZvonki permission, and enable automatic recording.

If Android stops Shizuku, remove its battery restrictions and allow background activity. See the detailed setup guide and FAQ for troubleshooting.

Do I need root access?

No. On Android 11 and newer, Shizuku can be started through wireless debugging without root or a computer.

Does recording work in the Google Play build?
